Jewish watchdog group slams director Oliver Stone for anti-Semitic remarks

(AXcess News) New York - The Simon Wiesenthal Center in New York, one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations in the world, slammed director Oliver Stone over anti-Semitic remarks made in a London Sunday Times article in which Stone called the Holocaust over-rated by the media because so many Jews controlled the press.
Stone said our culture overemphasized the Holocaust because "Jews control the media."
"Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people," stone proclaimed.
Stone, who directed such Hollywood hits as "Born On The Fourth of July", "Natural Born Killers", "JFK" and "Wall Street" may not see the inside of a film studio for quite some time considering the entertainment community's reaction to the director's thoughtless comments.
"Hitler is the product of a series of actions," said Stone. "A product of his era."
Stone's comments were made while discussing his 10-hour Showtime documentary entitled "The Secret History of America" in which the director claims he will show how American, German and even English industrialists supported Hitler's rise to power. "It's cause and effect," said Stone. "People in America don't know the connection."
But despite Stone's attempt to place Hitler's rise to power in context to industrialists having had knowledge of his madness, the director's comments were taken as belittlement of the Holocaust and anti-Semitic by Simon Wiesenthal Center Associate Dean Rabbi Abraham Cooper who said, “Oliver Stone is bent on trivializing the Nazi Holocaust - ‘Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people...’ and ‘contextualizing’ both Hitler and Stalin as not-such-terrible-guys with whom we should empathize."
"He parrots the anti-Semitic chorus led by Iran's genocide-wannabe Ahmadinejad by attributing the world's focus on the Shoah - in his money quote, sure to be enshrined in every Islamist Google search - 'The Jewish domination of the media...'"
In his interview, Stone had gone beyond calling Jews "in control of the media" even going so far as to say the hold Washington in their grip. "There's a major lobby in the United States," Stone says. "They are hard workers. They stay on top of every comment, the most powerful lobby in Washington. Israel has f***ed up United States foreign policy for years."
Yet Rabbi Cooper had a different opinion and one he hoped would be shared by the entertainment community at large - to condemn Stone as he condemned the Jewish community.
"We hope that Oliver Stone's reckless and outrageous rhetoric will be condemned by his peers in the entertainment community," Cooper concluded.
Showtime has not commented.
